I’ve been doing this work for about 7-8 years now and I can say I have never seen this in all my time working with Dads and parents. We scheduled our first in-person Becoming A Super Dad Workshop in Columbia County. In parenting education and parenting groups you kind of know from experience that if you have a certain amount of people sign up for a class, you generally have about half that number attend. So when I had 6 registrants I was excited but realistically expecting about 2-3 of them to show up. This is very normal with the everyday busyness of life and family and the nature of these classes and groups.
I was overjoyed when I showed up that evening and was met by 7 amazing Dads who were eager to talk about fatherhood and connect with each other. I was blown away by the conversations and questions that we were having and did not care one bit that we spent only a good 5-10 minutes on my actual curriculum. Everything we talked about was directly related to the workshop anyway and was much more impactful to what they were experiencing in their everyday life. It was one of the coolest nights of my parenting education career and we all left that evening committed to keeping this amazing momentum of Dads connecting with other Dads going.
Thus the Columbia County Super Dads Group was born! We’re still in the building stage but we are really excited to bring this to the community and invite you to join us. We’re just a bunch of regular guys, regular Dads, with no agenda except for encouraging each other and sharing the highs and lows of fatherhood. Dads…being a father is difficult and exhausting work. Many of us have found that work feels lighter and we feel more rejuvenated when we get to connect and talk with other Dads experiencing the same things.
